Along with rest of the country, the remotes Tirap district bordering Myanmar also celebrated 71st Indias Independence Day in a very befitting manner in its Administrative H/Qs despite inclement weather and heavy rain in some circles. At Khonsa H/Q: Wanglam Sawin, Honorable 55-Khonsa East MLA & Chairman A.P. Medicinal Plant Board unfurled National Tri-color in Nehru Stadium, Khonsa as Chief Guest. He took Rastriya Salute from IRBN, NCC, Scout and guides of various schools from Khonsa town. The ceremonial parade was followed by Inauguration of Exhibition Stalls and patriotic songs, sports by school children, Karate demonstrated by Wangcha Lowang and his group, Band displayed by 16 Assam Rifles. The Nocte Audio Album Rangphoam Po Sponsored by Wangton Lowang was released by Chief Guest Wanglam Sawin on the occasion. Addressing the huge gathering Wanglam Sawin at the outset paid homage to the Father of Nation Mathatma Gandhi Martyr Hangpan Dada and freedom fighters who had laid down their lives for the freedom which we celebrate and rejoice. He further, highlighted various developments which had transformed India into one of the most powerful countries of the world in these 71 years after the Independence. He admired Narendra Modiji Honorable Prime Minister of India, Honorable Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu and DCM Chow Na Mein for the untiring and cumulative efforts for the development of the country, the state and Tirap District in particular. While welcoming the steps taken by Government in implementing Aadhar /GST and further re-iterated to make every possible efforts to achieve cent percent coverage in the district. While thanking the public and the Govt. agencies, he appealed for more consorted efforts to develop the area in every sphere so that the benefits of development percolates to the lowest strata of the society. Earlier Chief Guest Wanglam Sawin awarded Rs. 1 lac for best school award 2016-17 to Headmaster Taging Akhang of Government Town Secondary School,Khonsa and Best Fisherman Award 2016 17 to Shri Summok Teyang of Tupi village. The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner P.N. Thungon, ADC Techu Aran, ZPC Smti Sontung Lowang Bangsia, SP Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Commanding Officers of 16 Assam Rifles, 36 Bn CRPF, Punjab Regiment, Ex-Minister Thajam Aboh, Ex-MLA Kamthok Lowang, HoDs, Ex-Armies, Gaon Buras, PRIs, Govt. Employees, School childrens, Public from Khonsa town.

How to Reach :  
1. By Train There is no direct train service to Tirap. The nearest railway stations are at Dibrugarh (120 km), Tinsukia (110 km) or Naharkatia (70 km) in Assam . From these places, daily bus/taxi service is available to the district headquarter, Khonsa. It takes approximately 3 hours each from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia and approximately 2 hours from Naharkatia to reach Khonsa. There is a daily Rajdhani Express and Brahamputra Express from New Delhi to Dibrugarh / Tinsukia via Guwahati. The train bookings may be done online at the site 2. By Bus Both Govt. and private deluxe bus services are available between Guwahati and Dibrugarh/Tinsukia. Night service is also available. Then from Dibrugarh or Tinsukia onwards, buses of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service (APSTS) to Khonsa have a daily service. Many private taxis / buses also ply on this route. Khonsa has recently been connected to State capital Itanagar by a daily direct bus service of APSTS. 3. By Air Dibrugarh is connected to Guwahati by air through 2 daily flights. It also has a direct daily flight to New Delhi (Jetlite - From Dibrugarh onwards, taxi or bus service is available. Dibrugarh is also connected to State Capital Itanagar by a daily helicopter (except Sundays) service (operated by Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh). Once a week, the helicopter also lands at Khonsa helipad from Dibrugarh. The time-table is however subject to change and exact prevailing timings may be ascertained from helipad at Itanagar (Ph No. 0360-2243262).
